A sculptural object for rituals of stillness
A quiet breath.
A lingering trail of smoke.
A moment to return to yourself.
Samay transforms the simple act of burning palo santo into a ritual of presence—an invitation to pause, release, and breathe.
About the Piece
Inspired by pre-Hispanic iconography and Jade Rivera's symbolic visual language, Samay is a handcrafted ceramic incense holder where sculpture and ritual become one.
Its name comes from the Quechua word samay—a term that speaks of breath, rest, and the gentle pause between one moment and the next.
As the palo santo burns, smoke slowly emerges through the bird's chest and beak, as if exhaling a quiet breath. A subtle gesture that evokes release, transforming the atmosphere while inviting stillness and contemplation.
More than a functional object, Samay is a guardian of quiet moments—a piece created to accompany everyday rituals with intention.
